Out & About (Wayfarering! Now Solos too…)

6/8/14    It was the Solos turn last week and while we couldn’t quite live up to the standard of the Wayfarers the week before we didn’t disgrace ourselves!

Roger Wilson managed a very creditable 38th out of 72 entrants, despite being the only Broader to capsize all week, slowly improving his performance all week. Ian Ayres spent the week recovering from a poor start and rose to 51st, just piping Bob Hawkins into 52nd who had started with a 9th place in race one, both of them wimped out on the windiest day following a 45 minute dead run out to the start-line.

25/10/14  Congratulations to Phil & Dennis Manning for coming 17th (out of 58) at the Wayfarer Europeans – results which included several top places at the first mark.  Also to Mike Mc for winning the event quite convincingly – must be all that training he gets with us over the winter….

Several other Rollesby sailors will be out and about at Nationals, European and even World events over the next few weeks – whilst we are not expecting winners we’ll be doing the best we can – watch out for results on the sailing websites.

Maintenance & Lost Property

Hi Folks

Firstly a gentle reminder that this coming Saturday (22nd) is Maintenance Day, at this time of year its all about ensuring the club is generally tidy (both inside and out!) and rigging all the club boats to get them in order for the season ahead. Plenty of jobs for anyone who can spare a couple of hours, free lunch if  you’re there all day, and tea / coffee!

On the lost property front, someone is going to be disappointed when they find my worn-out dry-suit in their bag – Black / Grey  Gill suit – Large size with worn cuffs and slightly leaking leg seams! They left me a much better condition Medium size one – on Sunday 9th March. Let me know who you are, guess you’ll want to swap back!

Dennis has lost a nice shiny paddle and a left handed Henri-Lloyd glove – please return if you’ve accidentally picked either of these up.

There is a large bag of lost property on the sofa in the clubhouse, some stuff has been in it all winter – if you think any is yours please check before the end of the month when the bag will go to a charity shop.

Thanks

Ian

Rollesby Broad – Ice Watch

As regular winter sailors / website watchers will know I’ve been carrying out this task for
the last few winters, putting updates on the site on Thursday or Friday often with an update
on Saturday, if the weather is likely to threaten sailing. I know those who travel long distances
to sail have really appreciated this, particularly in marginal conditions.

This was very easy as I lived only 10 minutes walk from the bridge. Unfortunately I have now
moved and have no reason to venture passed Rollesby other than to sail.

So I’m looking for a volunteer or two to take on this role, someone who lives near the club or
passes regularly particularly during or towards the end of the week. Someone who is willing to
put a quick note on the website – or give me or Keith a message and we’ll do it.

Thanks
Ian

Sailing as Normal on Sunday (16th June)

Following an emergency committee meeeting this week and thanks to very generous loans of equipment from members the club will be able to offer racing as normal this Sunday. Please bear with the race team at the start of the day as temporary equipment is put in place / checked for operations.

Please note there will probably not be a rescue craft available this Saturday (15th) but subsequent weekends should not be affected.

More details will be emailed directly to members.

If you’ve not run a meeting before don’t panic there will be some experienced hands around, or you can team up and pool your expertise!
