Capsized – In the Boatpark!

It may no longer be winter but we’ve had a lot of windy weather lately and there have been several boats blown over or completely off of their trolleys. Please make sure your boat is tied down, it will almost certainly void your insurance if it falls over and damages itself or someone else’s craft!

If you use a club boat which has a tie down please ensure this is resecured after  use.

Thanks

Wednesday Evening Pursuit Series – Starts 2nd May

Just a reminder that the Wednesday evening pursuit race series starts up this week. Start times are allocated individually so better sailors have to work much harder to win, first start at 7 pm for slowest boats, everyone races until 8.12 and your position in the fleet is recorded.

Jacket potatoes and some sort of filling available afterwards – order before sailling!

See you there?

Workday Thanks

We would just like to say a huge thankyou to the members who made it to the Spring Workday.

With a warm sunny day to spur us along you can now enjoy,  a tidy boat park and kids play area, a clear view of the broad from the Clubhouse, and a clean view of the club house from newly treated benches on a tidy shore line.  A tidy boat shed inside and out and clean and tidy club boats.  So again a big thankyou to you all.

RYA Race Rules Advisors Seminar at RBSC

Think you are the expert (or know you are not!)

Like to get involved in the post race banter but would like to be sure of your facts

Then this could be the course for you.

RYA Race Rules Advisors Seminar at RBSC Sat 4th February 2012.

Run by RYA trainor -Trevor Lewis

No fee but you’ll need to bring lunch…..

This is part of the RYA’s initiative to improve rules dispute procedures with out resorting to formal protests, sounds just like  what we do already but we do need a few people to be upto date with the rules!

This is being run in conjuntion with our neighbours at Hickling and spaces are limited (more than enough for us) but must be booked before hand.

Please catch me at the club or enquire on sailing@rbsc.org.uk if interested.

 Thanks

Ian

Not So Frozen Broad – Thurs 16th Feb

The broad has completely defrosted so there should be sailing this weekend.

The races will count for both the Frostbite Regatta and the Frostbite Series which runs until the end of March.

I won’t be there – but if you want to sign up for summer duties please do so as notice coming down soon!

You won’t be suprised given the minus 7 experienced in Rollesby last night that the broad is very solidly frozen – even the ducks were frozen out first thing this morning! No chance of any sailing this weekend but the forecast is for the thaw to start late Sunday, what a shame I’ll be away next weekend – but I will check out the ice’s progress mid week for you all…….

Been for a walk at Hickling this morning, obviously it too is frozen solid, but even if it wasn’t water is so low its starting to look like the tide has gone out, water in the river is six inches lower than i’ve seen it in mid summer and our cruiser is beached in its dyke!

Just visited on my way home (4.30) Thursday 9th

The broad is now 99% ice covered – the ice is hard but not particularly thick. If we get some breeze tomorrow or saturday it might clear provided there is no more snow or heavy frost will try to update this tommorow or sat morning.

Previous ice notices below

Frostbite Regatta Sunday 5th Feb POSTPONED.

There is less ice on the Broad this afternoon but you’d still need skates to round bouy 3! Given the forecast we will not have enough ice free area to offer a regatta sailing programme, however if any one feels like a sail we will endeavour to offer a shortcourse programme for two morning races only provided the ice free area remains.

Please note all competitors will be expected to be suitably dressed and there will be no lunch service just warm drinks

Hi All

Just been down to the broad (4.30 pm Friday 3rd Feb). Currently the surface is 60 to 70 % ice! Given the forecast it seems highly unlikely that this situation will improve before Sunday morning and therefore there is little likelyhood of any sailing this Sunday (5th Feb). I will make a further inspection tomorrow and update this message if possible late afternoon on Saturday. If no update assume ice is worse rather than better!

If as is likely there is no sailing on Sunday the Frosbite Regatta will be postponed until the next Sunday we do sail, but results for individual races will then also count as part of the Frostbite series which runs until the end of March.

Summer Duties 2012

Sign up for Summer

Hi All

Sign up sheets for choosing your summer duty dates are now up in the clubhouse.

Or you can email me on sailing@rbsc.org.uk by Sunday Feb 19th

If you email please send a choice of at least 2 dates – those signed up in the clubhouse take priority but I will try to enter emailed dates there every week.

Yes I am getting in very early but I have a personal commitment during March which takes priority over all sailing duties!

Thanks

Ian

Please label your trailer.

After inspecting the trailer park, it has been decided, because people are unable to get their road trailers into the park and that since so many road trailers have become overgrown with brambles, to tidy  up the area.  If your trailer is moved will you know which one it is?  If not you have two weeks to visit the site and mark your trailer with your name.

Any trailers which are found to be unroad worthy or unusable will be disposed of.

 Regards

Bernard
