It only dropped to minus 10 in Rollesby last night – check out the Martham Weather Station – Positively balmy compared to more inland parts of Norfolk but obviously enough to freeze the Broad again. It had defrosted sufficiently by Friday afternoon that we could definitely have got a sail in but even the birds have only kept about a 10 m square patch open this time!
Will we get any sailing in over the holidays? Check out the programme on ‘Holiday Sailing’ post. Current long term forecast says 12 degrees on New Years Day – shorts and T-shirt weather I should think!!
Boxing Day Pursuit Race, New Years Day Open, Winter Regatta

New Years Day – Open Regatta 3 races, 2 to count first start 10.45
January 9th – Winter Regatta prizes will be awarded for club racing on this day
All events subject to Broad not being frozen!
The ice has begun to retreat but at this time the broad is still way too solid to consider sailing on. Ducks are still walking on the ice just beyond our jetties.
The temperature has already started to drop again – can’t see the ice retreating enough for a race course to be set tomorrow.

The weed has gone!
Rollesby Broad is now virtually weed free, time to join in our winter sailing series – Winter membership runs from now until the end of March and racing is high quality and close!
Just a reminder – the last week of open sailing ends on 1st November! If you are cruising during the winter please try to follow the race course when racing is in progress as it allows both competitors and rescue crew to keep an eye on you – it will improve your boat handling too! Alternatively cruise away from the course area or during the breaks.
If you’d like to choose your winter duty date please sign up on the clubhouse notice board by 5th September.
Alternatively email me (with more than one alternative) – sailing@rbsc.org.uk by the same date.
Many thanks – Ian
