More success for Rollesby sailors out and about at championships.
Daniel found qualifying (63rd) for the gold fleet at the Topper nationals hard work but once there was fully on form finishing a cracking 26th overall out of a massive entry of 204 boats. A superb performance, hope this inspires the new crop of youngsters we’ve seen out this summer (time for Daniel to run some basic training?)
Meanwhile 51 RS500s attended their European Championships. Three of the four Gorleston crews spend their winter practicing with us – Phil & Tamsin Highfield were very consistent finishing 24th, Dave Houghton & John Symonds (31st) spent the week trying and eventually just succeeding in catching Anna Zmura & Keith Sykes (36th). Fellow Gorleston members Tim & Heather Wilkins however showed them a clean transom winning the event outright – many congratulations………..
There’s plenty of others attending local regattas, John Saddington won the Hickilng Evening Regatta! – Please let me know how you got on and I’ll post something here.

6/8/14 It was the Solos turn last week and while we couldn’t quite live up to the standard of the Wayfarers the week before we didn’t disgrace ourselves!
Roger Wilson managed a very creditable 38th out of 72 entrants, despite being the only Broader to capsize all week, slowly improving his performance all week. Ian Ayres spent the week recovering from a poor start and rose to 51st, just piping Bob Hawkins into 52nd who had started with a 9th place in race one, both of them wimped out on the windiest day following a 45 minute dead run out to the start-line.
25/10/14 Congratulations to Phil & Dennis Manning for coming 17th (out of 58) at the Wayfarer Europeans – results which included several top places at the first mark. Also to Mike Mc for winning the event quite convincingly – must be all that training he gets with us over the winter….
Several other Rollesby sailors will be out and about at Nationals, European and even World events over the next few weeks – whilst we are not expecting winners we’ll be doing the best we can – watch out for results on the sailing websites.

Our Friends at Gt Yarmouth and Gorleston Sailing Club would like to invite the members of RBSC to a numbers of events the week commencing Monday26th May. |
Event Details.
Monday 26th May – Bank holiday open Day. – Start time 10:30
Come with or without you boat, and experience the joys of clean wind and open spaces, GYGSC – members will be available to offer an introduction to the Sea sailing experience.
Sunday 15th June – Lowestoft passage Race. – Start time 10:30
The planned race is to Lowestoft and back depending on favourable conditions
Saturday 21st June Beach Regatta . – Start time 13:00 Briefing 12:00
Sunday 22nd June Beach Regatta – Start Time 10:30
This is our main open event of the year with separate starts for the Phantom and allcomers fleets, there will be 3 back to back races each day.
Thursday 26th June – Thursday Evening Regatta – Start time 7pm
This is likely to be 2 races over a shorter inshore course than Sundays and with usually lighter evening winds a great opportunity to race on the sea. The evening sailing tends to attract more Single Handers especially Lasers than the larger weekend courses.
If guests would like to leave their boats on site for the Week this should not be a problem.
Directions to GYGSC can be found here http://www.gygsc.co.uk/ (Club, Location)

Think you are the expert (or know you are not!)
Like to get involved in the post race banter but would like to be sure of your facts
Then this could be the course for you.
RYA Race Rules Advisors Seminar at RBSC Sat 4th February 2012.
Run by RYA trainor -Trevor Lewis
No fee but you’ll need to bring lunch…..
This is part of the RYA’s initiative to improve rules dispute procedures with out resorting to formal protests, sounds just like what we do already but we do need a few people to be upto date with the rules!
This is being run in conjuntion with our neighbours at Hickling and spaces are limited (more than enough for us) but must be booked before hand.
Please catch me at the club or enquire on sailing@rbsc.org.uk if interested.
Thanks
Ian
